We are a mutual support group for anyone with hearing loss in the Swansea area.
We arrange monthly meetings and social outings as well as lip reading classes where we can:Meet and talk with other hard of hearing people. Learn how to get the best from our hearing aids. Gain confidence in everyday situations. Make new friends with a common interest. Learn about other support available. Monthly meetings are held on the first Friday of every month from 3.30 to 5.30.
Why the community needs usWe help members overcome their social isolation by meeting others with similar problems. We arrange outings with a communal lunch - many do not have the confidence to travel alone on public transport. Exchanging experiences is very valuable, especially to those who have only recently had hearing aids. Many members have benefitted from our contacts with providers of specialist equipment and advice to help with telephones, doorbells and smoke alarms.
Our impact on the communityFounded in 2008, we have grown from an original 12 members to over 60 now, of whom about 30 come to the monthly meetings. Our weekly (free) lip reading class currently has 12 members, some of whom are becoming dependent on lip reading for everyday conversation.
