We have worked for 60 years to make Leamington an excellent place to live, work or visit.
We are a civic society which promotes good architecture and planning, and opposes poor or downright bad developments. Since 2005 we have converted the gardens at Leamington Station from a wilderness of brambles to ones that have won numerous national and local awards. In 2016 we achieved a £1 million grant from the Heritage lottery Fund in partnership with Warwick District Council to restore the Pump Room Gardens. We are currently helping the parish church of the town, All Saints' Church.
Why the community needs usWe are regularly consulted by developers contemplating major schemes and in recent years, have successfully opposed bad developments in the town. We help and advise local residents with planning problems, listed building consent, etc. We campaign on parking regulations, tree planting, litter clearance, and many other concerns to residents.
Our impact on the communityFor the last eight years we have worked to make Leamington railway station a nicer place to start or finish a rail journey. We worked in partnership with Warwick District Council on a £120,000 project to restore the eight Victorian arches in the Pump Room Gardens. The Leamington Society was part of a consortium which raised £80,000, with the remainder coming from the council. We now have won a £1 million grant for these gardens from the Heritage Lottery Fund, again working with council.
The Leamington Society always welcomes new volunteers. Those with special skills or merely general enthusiasm can help in small or big ways. Gardening and IT skills in particular are needed.
