Islington has one of the highest child poverty rates in the country. 37% of Islington children live in hardship and poverty. The Parent House (TPH) helps disadvantaged parents in Islington, make changes to their own lives, We support parents who are experiencing multiple disadvantages including trauma, abuse, poverty, and poor mental health. Over 600 parents are supported by TPH annually, providing advice, mentoring, income maximization, SEND parenting support, relaxation sessions and volunteer training. We believe when parents thrive, children thrive.

The parents we work with are often isolated, struggling with the challenges of parenting, and are now further disadvantaged by the Cost of Living Crisis.

We aim to,
•Reduce family poverty
•Improve well-being and mental health
•Improve parent's skills and life chances

We help parents with the basics of accessing additional benefits, grants, food, clothes and household items. We also support them in fulfilling their ambitions and aspirations, so they can be the ones who support their families.

Case study
Amina came to the house after experiencing years of domestic abuse. She was going through the court system to protect herself and her 2 small children. She was referred to The Parent House by a family support worker. At first she needed food bank vouchers, clothes for the children and an advocate to help her in court. As her journey with the house went on she took an accredited course and took a job as a school TA. She is now one of The Parent Houses most hard working volunteers and she supports new parents, particularly around helping with SEND children. she told us
