Evercreech Friendship Club for Senior Citizens living in the Parish of Evercreech
To help, support and inform Senior Citizens in an atmosphere of social friendliness.
Our moto being "Laughter is the BEST" medicine and all our monthly meetings are conducted in a friendly way, that's where our name comes from.
We have a wide range of informative speakers ranging from NHS, Emergency Services and Social/Government Welfare groups. Social events include the annual Summer Garden Party, the Club's Birthday Party and Christmas Lunch (with a visit from Father Christmas).
Why the community needs usThe club endeavours to keep its members (all Senior Citizens) up-to-date with the latest news and welfare advice, ie the recent change to digital TV as an example, "warm front applications" etc
For some members it is the only opportunity to socialise with old friends. It is an excellent way for new villagers or lonely or recently retired villagers to meet and make new friends. The local community transport helps by bringing the elderly to our meetings from their sheltered housing in the village
Our impact on the communityQuote from one of our members, "I really look forward to our club meetings, its the only time I get out and chat to old friends and make new ones, I always seem to win a raffle prize, that's the icing on the cake for me!"
What more can we say!
It is a happy club run by Senior Citizens for Senior Citizens. Our most recent visit was from the Practice Manager of the local surgery, explaining the possible changes and getting an excellent feed-back from our members direct.
A very positive outcome
We are mainly a self-help group of Senior Citizens, meeting on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Active volunteers would be welcome to help with putting out tables/chairs and serving tea etc. No skills are required except for a good sense of humour along with a happy disposition.
