Café, meeting rooms, kitchen, large hall, sanctuary space - working together to build our community
Cotford St Luke church is planning to build and run a welcoming community building in the heart of Cotford St Luke. The building, on the last remaining plot of land in the centre of the village, will be a communal gathering point from which the church and other organisations and individuals can serve the growing community in the popular but under-resourced village of Cotford St Luke. The charity will raise all funds from local fundraising events, donations, and larger grants.
Why the community needs usBeing a new build village, Cotford St Luke lacks the long-term established facilities that an older community takes for granted. In a population of over 2300 people, we have a school, shop, pub, small community hall and part-time use of the school hall, but no church or other spiritual space, meeting place for childminders, home-workers, young or old people, or cafe. St Luke's Centre aims to provide a building for both church and community use that will create opportunities for all.
Our impact on the communityA friendly volunteer run cafe will provide human contact that will benefit all, but particularly those who are lonely, bringing up children on their own, new to the area, recently bereaved, working from home or without transport. The cafe will also give those wanting to return to work the chance to gain experience volunteering. The permanent building will enable the church to consistently deliver its existing youth club, toddler group and key family celebrations, and open up after school cafes.
