As Milton Keynes celebrates its 50th birthday, we're embarking on a major expansion to make sure the city's past and present is preserved for future generations to enjoy.Our exciting expansion will see the addition of new galleries - ancient and modern Milton Keynes - packed with stories, exhibits and hands-on activities.Now we need YOUR help to raise the final £1.5 million we need to ensure we make this one of the best history-based attractions in the UK.
Why the community needs usWithout MK Museum the city's history would have been lost. Milton Keynes Museum was dreamed, built and is still run by the local community for the local community. The new galleries will not only give our city its roots, they are an opportunity to bring back valuable archaeology for local people to enjoy, tell important stories before they are lost, provide a great outing for families and create another major tourist attraction to put MK on the map.
Our impact on the communityWorking in partnership with MK Council, we have enough money to build these new galleries and begin to fit them out. But - following the Heritage Lottery Fund's disappointing decision not to support the museum expansion - we're £1.5 million short of what we believe it will take to make us among the best in the UK. With the help of world class architects and designers, we aim to ensure OUR story is told with the same vibrancy, fascination and passion that has made the existing museum so loved.
