Age UK Somerset - Working to improve later life for the older people of Somerset and North Somerset.
Age UK Somerset exists only to make life better for the older people of Somerset & North Somerset. We help older people to enjoy their later years by offering a specifically developed range of products, services and activities to address their issues. These include a Befriending service to combat loneliness, an Information & Advice service, Toe Nail cutting clinics, exercise sessions and social groups.
Why the community needs usWe help keep communities together through reducing isolation & improving inclusivity. Our services are all community based. We provide help with claiming benefits, advice about housing & keeping warm in winter, we provide volunteer befrienders and we run exercise, activity and social groups and classes throughout Somerset & North Somerset. The benefit to the older community is great but we need vital funds to ensure we can continue to provide our services where they are needed the most.
Our impact on the communityLast year at least 3,500 older people used our services.We brought over £3m into the local economy & our Volunteers provided services that would cost over £500,000 if they were paid for. Through helping with benefit claims & providing advice we improve quality of life. Our Befriending service leads to a happier, socially connected older population & we also help people to improve their health & wellbeing - both physical & mental - through exercise classes, activity sessions & social groups.
