Tackling social isolation and combatting loneliness for the active elderly & disabled
The British and Scottish Governments have recently adopted strategies to tackle social isolation and loneliness. The Alive & Kicking has been combatting these societal ills for 30 years, by ensuring a regular and varied weekly programme of activities are delivered in it's Centre for the active elderly and disabled who live in the Greater Springburn area of Glasgow. Over 200 members enjoy a 'club' atmosphere as they have a lunch, a game of bowls, some line dancing, bingo and a tea dance to live musicians. There is also a busy walking group, days away and supported holidays in Ireland, Blackpool and Spain. Being connected and involved in a wider community contributes to the vitality and health of our elderly and disabled members, whilst reassuring their families that they are being supported in later life.
